March 22, 2020: David Byrne might be a perfect person. They say don't meet your heroes, but I've been in proximity to him a couple times, and he is possibly even more delightful than I expected, as he's rather shy, which, in someone so charismatic, I find disarmingly charming. A few friends have been on projects with him, and from them I know he fosters convivial collaborations. And he does things like canvass door-to-door, include voter registration at his Broadway show, and not only disseminates regular playlists but has a whole project on Reasons To Be Cheerful. All this while being a modest musical genius who is fabulously playful in performance, including with how he uses his very own body. See any flaws? Me neither. (Photo by Jim Dyson)
